Yvonne Mack

Yvonne was born on May 22, 1953, as the first child of Lillie and Isaac Lewis. She attended Schley Elementary school in Chicago until 1963.

In 1963 when Yvonne was 10, the family moved to Los Angeles and as the eldest of three girls for the newly single mother she shared the burden of care for her younger sisters, Debi (7) and Sallie (3).

Yvonne graduated from Hobart Boulevard Elementary, Berendo Junior High and Los Angeles High.

Soon after high school, around 1973 Yvonne started working for the County of Los Angeles where she was gainfully employed for approximately 43 years, until retirement.

In 1981 Yvonne married retired Marine, Louis Mack. She was a devoted wife in a union that lasted for 10 years.

In the early 90’s Yvonne went back to school and completed her degree at California State Dominguez Hills with honors.

In 2006, when Sallie, her youngest sister, was incapacitated, Yvonne assumed responsibility for the raising of her two nieces Anwuli and Nwamaka. She became their legal guardian in 2010. She was also primarily responsible for her mother (Lillie Lewis) and grandmother (Mosella Jones).

Yvonne was an usher at Friendship Baptist Church in Pasadena, CA. Through relationships established at Friendship, she was loved and supported by sisters of faith, ‘The Village” for many years.

Yvonne enjoyed craft projects of all kinds, was a mean bid whist player and an avid reader. She had a rare sense of humor and could maintain a straight face through the wildest schemes.

As daughter, sister, aunt, friend and professional, her love through service was her life’s work. Nothing will fill the void left by this remarkable soul though we celebrate her union with God and the accompanying rest.

She leaves to mourn her passing her sister Debi, nieces Anwuli and Nwamaka, Aunts Sarah, Ella, Dorothy, Charlene and Ruth and a host of cousins, and friends, especially the ‘Village’.
