Mattie Marie Riley

Mattie Marie Riley passed October 28, 2023, in Stockton, California. She was born June 25, 1927, in Layman, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Dora Saylor Taylor; her brothers Silas, Leroy, Robert, Harley, and Orel Taylor; her sisters Verna Quick and Sudie Janice Mavilia; her beloved husband Harlan and dear son Ronald. She is survived by daughter Regina (Dennis) Peters; son Dennis John Riley; grandchildren John Lee (Teva) Riley, Deanne Flores, and Amanda Marie Peters; and four great-grandchildren Sydney (Mason) Hardin, Deagan Riley, Arthur Flores, Jr., and Haile Flores.

Mattie moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in her late teens. There she met Harlan; they celebrated 44 years of marriage before his death in 1992. In 1964 the family moved to Pasadena, California, where Mattie lived for 54 years. She was an excellent gardener, outstanding cook, gifted flower arranger, artistic decorator for holidays, and admired hostess for family, friends, and Masonic gatherings.

Mattie was a woman of grace, laughter, love, and courage who was well loved and will be deeply missed.
