A Rose Has Bloomed in Heaven

Wanda Lee Pursell entered this world on May 2, 1928, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. She grew up inKingfisher with both of her parents, Samuel Nelson Pursell and Eunice Angeline Davis Pursell (June)and 3 sisters, Eva Maxine Pursell Dutton, Evelyn Fern Pursell Payne Boecher, and Dorothy JunePursell Ketcham. She was the youngest of the four girls: the last to enter this world and the last toenter His gates on January 9, 2021. Wanda loved her childhood and she shared so many wonderfulmemories of it with her family.

Soon after Wanda graduated high school in 1946, she moved to the Los Angeles area. She lived with 2 of her sisters and worked. She met Robert (Bob) H. Dutch while working in Los Angeles and became Wanda Dutch on June 22,1947. Ten years later, Leanda Jo entered this world and 5 years after that Bobbi Lynn showed up. Leanda must have been a handful if it took so long for Bobbi to get here!

Wanda lived a great life. It was not always an easy time with working full time at Allstate InsuranceCompany, being actively involved in Temple City Christian Church and her Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and raising her 2 daughters.

Leanda married Jay Brown and gave Wanda her first grandson, Kyle Allen. Bobbi and husband DanielFarewell gave Wanda her second grandson, Chad Nelson, and six days later, Leanda had grandson #3, Keith Davis. Three years later, Bobbi & Daniel gave Wanda her 4th and final grandson, Travis Edward.Wanda called all the grandsons “Sweetie Pie” so when Travis started talking, he called Wanda“Grandma Sweetie Pie”. When Travis married, his wife Jordan called her “Grandma Sweetie Pie” too. That name stuck with her for life, and, at the same time, Wanda gained a granddaughter!

Wanda was an elegant lady: always the best dressed with the best big hair, which earned her anothernickname, “Grandma with the Fro”. She also had the best shoes and her make-up was always perfect.Shirley McLain said it best: “The only thing that separates us from animals is our ability toaccessorize.” Wanda was quite advanced for our species with her fine accessories and sassy to boot! She was fun. She was a woman of great faith. She was loyal, entertaining, resilient, enjoyed life andmost of all, loved her family.

But none of these things move me, nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus to testify to the gospel of thegrace of God. Acts 20:24
