Loved Ones

And when great souls die, after a period peace blooms, slowly and always irregularly. Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric vibration. Our senses, restored, never to be the same, whisper to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be better. For they existed. - Maya Angelou

We are deeply saddened that our beloved husband, father and brother, Satya "Paul" Bajaj, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. Paul was a brilliant scientist, deeply committed to research and innovation. He most recently served a 15 year tenure as a Professor of Orthopedic surgery at the UCLA David Geffen school of Medicine. He was also an avid rower, cook, and gardener. Most of all, Paul was a beloved husband, a doting father to his only daughter, and a loving brother to his six siblings.

Paul outlived his prognosis of advanced lung disease by many years. He pushed forward with courage, hope and determination. He is ultimately one of the longest surviving individuals amongst those with his particular form of lung disease -- a testament to the tenacity we all knew him to possess.

An imaginative and creative scientist, he made significant advances in the field of hematology and coagulation. Paul did not believe in retirement, and worked until the end of his life; his work continues on through his dedicated colleagues and collaborators. He was a mentor to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers for 45 years, guiding and supporting many as they navigated the world of research. He derived immense joy and fulfillment from his mentees' successes, and those who knew him will remember him for his kindness, humility and love for laughter.

Paul is survived by his wife and daughter, as well as four siblings. We will miss his unconditional love, tremendous strength, and paternal wisdom.

Please join us in a memorial ceremony on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Mountain View Mortuary's Sunrise Chapel, followed by cremation and services. For those that are unable to attend, the event will be live streamed. Please see link below.
