Charles Edward Leonard Washington, age 80, departed this life on December 30, 2024.  The fifth of six children, Charles was born August 4, 1944, the son of Booker T. Washington and Helen Washington.

Born and raised in Providence, R.I., Charles was an eager participant in the East Side Little League. A 1962 graduate of Hope High School, he entered the Air Force and completed his service with an honorable discharge. Charles enjoyed God’s world and throughout his growing up years enjoyed fishing trips with his father and the entire family.

Charles had a natural gift for singing and playing the guitar which he practiced as a hobby throughout his life. He enjoyed harmonizing with his siblings, singing folk music and playing in local coffee houses. After graduating from Roger Williams College in Rhode Island, Charles moved to Southern California where a number of his paternal cousins live.

As a chauffeur with Music Express, Charles chauffeured movie stars, music executives, and actors, which meant that no two days were the same!  He would proudly share the sights and sounds of Southern California with clients, family and friends alike. Charles was deeply loved and appreciated by his entire family for his caring, considerate ways, his love for outdoor life.

Charles is preceded in death by his brother, Booker T. Washington, Jr. and his parents Booker T. Washington, Sr., and Helen Pressley Washington. Left to celebrate his memory are his siblings: Bernard Washington of Philadelphia, PA, Virginia Love of Providence, R.I., Barbara Rogers of Pittsburgh, PA and Raymond Washington of Cranston, R.I.; a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

We will cherish the blessings he gave to all through his kindness, giftedness and thoughtfulness of others!

The family will have a private memorial at a future time.
